With its National Firearms Control Program in place, the PNP will implement fully anti-firearms measures that would stop political warlords from intimidating voters based on past experiences.
Police Director General Jesus Ame Verzosa, Chief of the Philippine National Police, vowed that the PNP will do everything in its power to dismantle the political warlords in time for the holding of a clean, peaceful and orderly elections next year.
To effectively attain this goal, the PNP will closely coordinate with other government agencies to carry out programs to make it difficult for civilians and other unauthorized persons who had been hired as bodyguards of politicians and other VIPs to possess, much less, carry firearms.
The PNP is considering further that PNP security/escorts of politicians and VIPs should be required to wear proper uniforms for their easy identification. Persons not in uniform who are carrying weapons are deemed possessing and carrying them illegally and will be held for questioning.
We are likewise encouraging our people to report to the nearest police stations any individuals who are carrying firearms while in civilian clothes for a more effective campaign against private armies and to ensure an honest election and a peaceful community to live.
